Lively neighborhood bistro serving popular classics with a soul
Lari&Penati sits at the end of Petrinjska Ulica, near the most beautiful Zagreb parks (Zrinjevac, Tomislavac, Štros)
The restaurant is divided into two halls, and an outside terrace. Seating at high wooden tables and chairs is not too comfortable, but the chairs are sturdy and reliable. The walls are decorated with antique cooking utensils and the table setting is at a higher level than you would expect from a simple bistro.
The space on the left sits 20, and the one on the right can take 14 people.
What is served
The menu consists of 5 starters, 5 salads, 6 mains, and 3 desserts, and a coouple of vegetarian options. Everything at Lari&Penati follows bistro philosophy, tasty, fast, and simple.
Their menu sticks to popular classics you can find anywhere, but here they are prepared well, and very tasty. Gault Millau recommends their roasted pork ribs with potato salad and cabbage, chicken wings marinated in orange, soy sauce, and honey, or aubergine parmigiana for the summer.
Spinach, blue cheese, and walnut quiche, as well as foie gras with toasted homemade bread, are served all year round.
There is no set wine list, but waiters are happy to recommend a suitable wine from the current offer. Most wines are available by the glass.
Service is relaxed. The menu is not seasonal, since Lari & Penati focus on Croatian staples and international classics.
What our chefs had
Thick and tasty panko fried chicken breast, served with a side salad, potato wedges and two dips. The chicken was perfectly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
The second dish we tried was an abundant and satisfying portion of beef cheek ragout with mushrooms and pancetta, served with bread dumplings prepared to bistro standards.
We had a San Servolo beer and a Coca Cola.
Two mains and two drinks came up to 27.50 euros.
