50 Best Discovery

Three Zagreb favourites make it to the prestigious global 50 Best Discovery list

The 50 Best Discovery is a prestigious annual selection that showcases the best in the hospitality industry, and forms part of the exclusive 50 Best list, which annually ranks the best restaurants, bars and hotels around the world.

Unlike the 50 Best, the 50 Best Discovery list features a more diverse range of restaurants and bars from around the world recommended by experts — from newly discovered talents and local favourites to fine dining and bars.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy comprises more than 1,100 international restaurant industry experts, including writers and critics, chefs, caterers and foodies who travel the world in search for restaurants. The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy includes more than 680 international beverage experts, including bar owners and bartenders, the authors who write about drinks and cocktail enthusiasts.

Restaurants and bars cannot apply to be part of the prestigious 50 Best Discovery list on their own; in order to qualify, they must get a significant number of votes in the final round of voting in the 50 Best Restaurants and 50 Best Bars competition or be featured in one of the annual regional lists.

According to the 50 Best, the Croatian cuisine is a “perfect 10” — it’s fresh, seasonal and local, regionally diverse and rich in flavours.

This year, the 50 Best Discovery list includes three Zagreb restaurants that are already well-known as top gourmet places to Zagreb residents and their guests. They are two fine dining restaurants and one cocktail bar.

The 50 Best Discovery list describes Mano2 as a restaurant with a hyper-local and micro-seasonal menu that gives traditional Croatian food a contemporary twist. Chef Hrvoje Kroflin recreates long-forgotten Croatian dishes for modern diners, and there is also a five- or eight-course tasting menu with wine pairings. Despite its fine-dining nature, the food at Mano2 is surprisingly abundant and enjoyable, bringing traditional local flavours at your table. The restaurant’s interior is also very pleasant, decorated in warm wood with a sloping ceiling and rounded edges, with a semi-open glassed-in kitchen and an outdoor area for warm weather.

Noel, crowned with a Michelin star, is located not far from Zagreb’s popular Martićeva Street. Here, local ingredients are brought to the next level with the help of French techniques expertly performed by head chef and co-owner Mario Mandarić. As for the menu, Mandarić’s seasonal menu brings out the best of mushrooms, truffles and game in the winter, and fresh vegetables in the spring. The ambiance is warm and inviting. The restaurant’s own bakery next door ensures the super-fresh bread, while their wine cellar doubles as a private dining room.

Peaches & Cream cocktail bar is the creative workshop of bartenders Dominik Bečvardi and Mišel Posavec. Located near the Trešnjevka market, in the past few years, it has become a cornerstone of the city's cocktail culture. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, excellent cocktails and eclectic interior, this inviting bar changes its cocktail menu twice a year, ensuring a seasonal approach and the use of the latest techniques and ingredients. Guests are also offered personalized cocktails tailored to individual preferences, which can be enjoyed either at the bar or on the spacious terrace.

Three catering facilities on the flattering 50 Best Discovery list put Zagreb on the world gourmet map. This is another renowned recognition of our city as an attractive tourist destination that has a lot to offer.
